PIANO SERVICES
Total Care for Your Piano
Iron Range Piano Co. is northern Minnesota's premier source for piano care. Whether you are in Hibbing, Duluth, Virginia, or up the North Shore, we can offer you piano tuning, repairs, rebuilding, and a variety of other services.
PIANO TUNING
Pianos should be tuned twice a year to counteract this inherent drift in pitch. While based near Virginia, MN, we offer piano tunings throughout the Iron Range, Duluth, Hibbing, and the rest of northern Minnesota. Even if your piano is never played, it should be tuned at least once a year to prevent the possibility of other major maintenance needs.
If your piano has not been tuned for several years, it may have dropped significantly below standard pitch, and may require a "pitch raise"--a preliminary rough tuning of the entire piano, in order to stretch the strings back to proper tension and balance the tension on the soundboard and bridges of the piano.

PIANO REPAIR
Has playing your piano lost its charm? Do you feel like you just can't play the way you used to? It might not be you. Worn and unresponsive actions can be repaired and regulated to bring back that sense of connection to the music that you used to have. Hard, flattened hammers can be voiced to bring out the warmth that you remember. Broken strings can be replaced. Contact us to discuss how we can make your piano satisfying again!
PIANO RESTORATION
At Iron Range Piano, we offer services up to and including a complete rebuild of your piano. We can install new keytops, new strings, new hammers, and even a new soundboard and pinblock! If you have an antique piano you would like to have brought back to life, call us and discuss what your needs are. We'd love you give you a quote!
PIANO MOVING
Piano moving isn't easy. Even a small piano weighs over 300 pounds, and a large grand piano can weigh up to 1500 pounds. Our movers are professionally trained, have years of experience, and access to specialized tools not available to the general public. Instead of dealing with the headache of moving your piano yourself, contact Iron Range Piano to take care of it for you. We also offer package discounts on tunings if we tuned it the same day of the move.
CLIMATE CONTROL
The greatest enemy of pianos in Northern Minnesota is excessive dryness. When the cold winter air is heated, the humidity indoors drops dramatically, potentially even below 10%. Pianos are designed to be at a relative humidity around 45%, and the extreme dryness of the Northern Minnesota climate can cause major structural components such as the pinblock, soundboard, and bridges, to crack and fail. That's the bad news. The good news? You can take action to protect your piano from catastrophic damage by installing a Dampp-Chaser Climate Control system! Their Piano LifeSaver System is designed to monitor humidity levels inside your piano, and add humidity to the air whenever it is needed.
